Joseph Auquier (whose real name is Joseph ANGILELLA) is a creator who is craving for research.
He has the critical outlook of an African who discovers our technological civilisation with all its sophistication, along with its repressed barbarity. In his paintings, there is a constant contrast between rational and irrational, magic and science.
Afier having been throngh classical techniques, he came to a split between shape and colour.

JosephAuquier is a true romantic, a visionary, quite sensitive. If his paintings have a violent line, there are in fact skilfully arranged ( with harmony). If the works on colours, it is because his paste is rich, sometimes lava flows, taking in the gleam of enamel.
Violence, turmoil, swrirl, inner and outer space, structure and technology, spectrum, signs, images could define his paintings. An underlying drama is always present. The reading is rarely straightforward, the shapes and the images always interfere creating new ones. Images collide in order to reach a density and a deeper meaning. Any notion of time and space is then blown out or rather different times and spaces get crystallised on the canvas all at once.
Joseph Auquier becomes intoxicated with liberty, he sets free forces that are within him. He is a visionary who goes with the flow, quite often up to the fringe. Some of his paintings even stopped on the edge of danger, in this fever of space.

Up to then. the human being has been excluded from his research. Then suddenly, as an apparition, the human face comes haunting his paintings in its shades of deep blue, the colour which svmbolises for him the spiritual.
